In Rus folklore and Greek mythology, the Sirin, or half-woman/half bird, represents eternal joy and heavenly happiness. She is a rare mythological being, residing only in paradise, but those who witness her or hear her song are deemed happy. 

Sometimes the Sirin is seen as a metaphor for God's word entering the soul of a man.
