Our Hermit shields herself from the outside world with her fan, a Chinese symbol for royal dignity and the power of air, which can infuse new life into the dead. Quiet contemplation is a necessary spoke in the life cycle, where we must be in solitude in order to rebuild. The raven atop her head signals her shaman-like powers, a gift she needs to nurture alone before she goes back out into the world to bestow knowledge. 

Ravens also indicate power, and the Hermit may be a teacher, either in the physical or in the form of a dream or spirit guide, when the unconscious or spirit world creates its own sage. 

Whether we are the hermit or are working with her, the mind is a potent and boundless container for answers to our deepest questions.
